Jewish Jumpstart

Jewish Jumpstart is an incentive grant program for Jewish individuals and families who are not yet members at an Ottawa synagogue or the Soloway Jewish Community Centre. This two-year membership discount makes belonging possible for more people in our community. 

 

It is a welcoming grant that is not based on financial need. It’s Jewish Federation of Ottawa’s way of saying “try us, you’ll like us.”  It’s time you joined already! 


This program begins in June 2019 and is part of the  Federation’s vision for the Jewish Superhighway: a place where no one is left behind.  

 

Who can apply?
 
Eligibility for Jewish Jumpstart Synagogue 
This program is open to individuals and families who are not current members at a synagogue in Ottawa and have not been members in the past three years.  
 
Eligibility for Jewish Jumpstart SJCC 
This program is open to individuals and families who are not current members at the SJCC and have not been members in the past three years. 
 
 
How do I apply?

Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait to apply! Financial need is not considered in the application. However, Jewish Federation of Ottawa verifies applications with participating organizations to ensure eligibility and you will be asked if you agree to provide your personal information before applying. Applicants can select the partner synagogue of their choice, and learn more about the synagogues and SJCC before applying.

Fees and Pricing

With Jewish Jumpstart, Federation pays a significant portion of the annual membership fee at the partner organization you choose to join! You pay the balance.     
 
Example
Year 1
Synagogue Annual Membership fee:    $1800.00
LESS Federation Jumpstart grant:      - $1350.00
                                               You Pay    $450.00
Year 2 
Synagogue Annual Membership fee:     $1800.00
LESS Federation Jumpstart grant:         - $900.00
                                                You Pay    $900.00
 
That is a Federation subsidy of $2250.00 for a family over two years.
 
Jewish Jumpstart average prices
Year 1 – Average family membership at synagogue or the SJCC =  $324 to $450 
Year 2 – Average family membership at synagogue or the SJCC =  $650 to $900
 

NOTE: Reciprocal membership discounts between synagogues and the SJCC exist outside of Jewish Jumpstart and can be combined.
