National Social Action Mission For Young Adults

What is the program?
We travel to Israel with young adults,  professionals and graduate students between the ages of 22 and 35. This is typical itinerary to give you some sense of what we do:

Day 1 - Arrive in Israel and spend the first day and night in the vibrant cosmopolitan of Tel Aviv. Tour the markets, beaches, Jaffa and of course the nightlife. The best tour guide in town will be joining the trip to share stories and teach us about some of the hidden secrets along our adventure.

Day 2 & 3 – Travel north to settle into a Kibbutz for some R & R with delicious food and spectacular views.

Day 4 – Meet our Israeli friends at Tel-Hai College and check into your new homes hosted by graduate students from the Partnership program. Start living, breathing and eating like a true Israeli by immersing yourself into the day to day lifestyle of your host-home.

Day 5-8 – Rise and shine! These are the days we get to work with communities facing significant challenges in the North to help make their lives a little bit easier. Some days you will get your hands dirty and others will be spent working with children. There are no words to describe the amount of impact you will have. This part of the trip is rewarding, eye opening and a once in a lifetime experience.

Day 6-8 – Explore the North. Travel the surrounding areas, go on hiking adventures and wine and dine at some of the finest wineries in the country.

Day 9-10 – Travel to Jerusalem for an authentic Shabbat experience. Visit the Kotel, tour the Old City, lounge at the hotel and explore the markets.

Day 11 – Travel back home or extend your trip!

The social action project will be presented to the group on the conference call in March. It will most likely be something that we will be physically building. Please note that the trip involves physical activity. All participants are expected to participate!

The Social Action Mission includes home hospitality. Participants will be matched and will room with students living in the North of Israel who are studying at Tel Hai University. Home hospitality in this case means student living accommodations, Israeli style – this will not be five-star accommodations!

Conditions for participation:

All participants are expected to assist in the planning and implementation of a fundraising event or activity to benefit our partner region in Northern Israel prior to the trip. Proceeds are to be presented in person while in the north.

All participants are expected to complete the following upon returning to Canada:

1)     Volunteer for 10 hours at the local Jewish organization of their choice

2)     Make a meaningful gift to the Annual Campaign

3)     Volunteer for one shift at Superweek telethon (if applicable)

4)     As a group make two presentations about your trip to local organizations or donors and write two articles either for the Ottawa Jewish Bulletin or the mainstream media

Once a trip is scheduled, details on how to apply will be online.
