Summary
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Community Building, the Community Engagement Specialist is a key member of the Community Building Team responsible for a variety of important initiatives including Holocaust education, March of the Living, volunteer engagement, welcoming newcomers and the virtual Jewish Ottawa Info-Centre. Federation is looking for someone who is passionate about helping to foster a warm, inclusive Jewish community. This position requires someone outgoing and self-motivated who loves working with people and has the skills to engage them in programs and volunteering in order to strengthen the community. A friendly, warm disposition, with a strong customer service orientation is a must.
Responsibilities of the Community Engagement Specialist
Volunteer Engagement
Coordinate a Volunteer Matching Program: maintain a list of volunteering opportunities and actively seek out individuals for these positions through creative marketing campaigns and one‐on‐one meetings; develop new ways to appreciate volunteers.
Virtual Jewish Ottawa Info-Centre
Serve as a point‐of‐contact for information about the community, and actively market this service to raise awareness of it; coordinate a Newcomers Welcoming Program for the Ottawa Jewish community.
March of the Living
Manage all aspects of the program leading up to the trip and afterwards; maintain ongoing communication with all stakeholders; oversee the marketing and recruitment of students and chaperones.
Shoah Committee
Manage the Shoah Committee; plan, organize and execute events for Yom Hashoah and Holocaust Education Month; represent Federation and the Jewish community on Shoah‐related matters.
Other Community Initiatives & Events
Federation is a consistently evolving organization, and this position may evolve as well to include other related responsibilities.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree minimum
• 2 years of work experience with social, cultural and/or Jewish programming preferred
• Strong event‐planning, organizing and logistical skills
• Demonstrate collaborative skills and ability to handle multiple projects
• Ability to work with volunteers of different backgrounds, ages and outlooks
• Strong interpersonal, social and networking skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Knowledge of the Ottawa Jewish community is an asset
Hours:
Full‐Time, must be available to work on evenings and weekends as required.
